A Big Goal for 2025

Do you want to do something amazing this year? If so, read on.

As you know, I’m a huge fan of goal setting. There are a couple different templates I use to accomplish things.

My original goal-setting program is to set a few goals in each of six categories each year: Financial, Family, Spiritual, Mental, Physical and Philanthropic. For example, I might have completing a marathon and keeping my weight at 165 pounds for Physical. Or possibly finishing that novel I've been working on.

I’d write these down in the present tense (like I already completed them) and review them every day. Sometimes twice per day. Over the years, this served me well.

My second goal-setting program is the three-step goal process. In a nutshell, after a thorough review of your future self (what do I look like in five years?), you write down what you want to accomplish, then you review that goal every day, and then you remove all the things blocking your path to completing that goal.

Combining both of these together is super powerful…except that most people I know either can’t or won’t do this. I’ve found this true for many reasons, but the primary reason for failure seems to be that people have trouble with more than one goal. It’s simply too much to accomplish three or four big things during the year.

So I’ve been thinking…what good is talking about goal setting the way I have if most people (for whatever reason) can’t or won’t do it?

But alas…for those who just can’t multitask goals…I present Jesse Itzler.

Jesse believes the key to goal setting is in the Misogi Challenge. Jesse's Misogi Challenge is one big, audacious goal that you accomplish during each year. For example, Jesse’s one big goal for 2025 is to run 2025 miles. Every day, that’s the major goal. Sure, he does the things he has to for work and play, but his Misogi goal is always top of mind.

2025 was the first year I tried Jesse’s challenge. My Misogi Challenge was to focus on optimum brain health. Basically my goal was to change everything I did with what I ate and how I worked out so I would never have to worry about Alzheimer’s or other brain issues in the future.

My progress:

I now do time-based eating (from 12pm – 7pm every day).

I do resistance training for 15-20 minutes every day.

I run four times per week.

I cut out added sugars, including dessert and pasta (and limit starches whenever possible).

And I have to admit…focusing on the one big goal got me super focused, which is why I believe this all seems to be working for me.

Jesse states that to do this properly, your Misogi Challenge goal needs to be three things.

1. It should really push the limit.

2. It should scare you a little bit.

3. It should be for you…not anyone else.

It’s the middle of July…still a perfect time to find your one big thing.

Do me a favor. Spend the rest of this week thinking about something big that would really add to your future self. Maybe that’s learning the guitar…or a second language. Maybe it’s downsizing and changing locations. Maybe it’s writing that big novel you’ve always wanted.

If you are a creator and you are not sure of your big goal yet, here are a couple ideas that will be presented at CEX in August that might help.

Let’s say your goal is to add another revenue channel for your business. Lou Mongello will be discussing this.

Let’s say you want to build the #1 podcast in your industry. Adam Schaeuble and Julia Levine will be talking about this.

What if you want to write an industry-leading book? Fernando Labastida will be presenting on this. Oh…and so will Ann Handley.

Need to be a better public speaker? Jay Acunzo has you covered.

How about building your own AI assistant? That’s Mike Allton

What if your Misogi is to create a dominant YouTube channel? Jay Clouse will show you how.

Need to create an amazing personal brand? Amy Landino is all over that.

Oh…and me? I’ll be covering some mindset changes that will open up new possibilities for your personal and business life.

I hope to see you there and hear about your Misogi goal for 2025 and beyond.
